On March 4 The sale of a rare extraterrestrial nonfungible token (NFT) set a record for the second-highest price ever for a CryptoPunk, fetching 4,500 Ethereun (ETH). Worth $16,032,959 at the time of sale.

Among us, aliens

An unidentified bidder bought the NFT, known as CryptoPunk #3100, at approximately 2:30 pm UTC. The buyer increased their first bid of 4,250 Ethereum (ETH) (worth $14.78 million at the time) to the closing price of 4,500 ETH after several days of bidding.

Out of 10,000 CryptoPunks, CryptoPunk #3100 is one of just 406 that has a headband. But the fact that it is one of just nine Alien CryptoPunks is probably why it is worth what it is now.

On February 12, 2022, CryptoPunk #5822, an extraterrestrial wearing a bandana. Sold for 8,000 Ethereum, which was worth $23.7 million at the time. This was the biggest winning offer for a CryptoPunk to yet. It’s interesting to note that 481 CryptoPunks wear bandanas. Compared to 406 who have headbands, making the former slightly less uncommon than the latter.

It’s not all about rarity

In theory, the alien with the cowboy hat and earring would be the rarest of all the CryptoPunks if only the least noticeable individual alien NFT trait is taken into consideration. In terms of quantity and individual attribute rarity. The extraterrestrial possessing a cap forward, pipe, and shades is the rarest in mathematics.

Sales determine the market in the end, and for whatever reason, “alien with bandana” and “alien with headband” continue to be the best among CryptoPunks. Two more alien pieces join them in the top four. With the “ape” trait, CryptoPunks complete the remaining top 10.
