Robinhood has expanded its cryptocurrency wallet access to Android users.  The Robinhood Wallet app, available for download on Google Play since March 20th, allows users to “own and manage all blockchain assets,” according to the app’s description.

This self-custody wallet supports major cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, along with Dogecoin and several lesser-known tokens. Users can also swap tokens directly within the app, leveraging decentralized exchange (DEX) aggregators for potentially better rates.

The Android launch follows the iOS release of Robinhood Wallet in early 2023, which garnered hundreds of thousands of downloads across over 140 countries. This expansion signifies a major step in Robinhood’s mission to democratize finance and make crypto investing more accessible.

Previously, Robinhood users could only trade cryptocurrencies directly on the platform. The new wallet grants them more control over their crypto holdings, allowing them to transfer their assets to and from other wallets and potentially benefit from features not available on Robinhood’s core platform.

This move comes amidst a growing trend of traditional financial institutions embracing cryptocurrency. By offering a crypto wallet, Robinhood positions itself to attract a wider audience, particularly those seeking a more hands-on approach to crypto management.

While the long-term impact remains to be seen, the launch of Robinhood Wallet on Android represents a significant development for cryptocurrency accessibility and user choice within the crypto ecosystem.
