Viber is rolling out a new feature powered by OpenAI’s technology. This feature automatically generates summaries of unread messages within group conversations.
Viber users will now be prompted with the option to receive a bulleted summary upon entering a group chat with a backlog of unread messages. This summary, generated by AI, extracts the key points of the conversation, highlighting important decisions, action items, and major discussion threads.
The focus is on providing users with a quick way to catch up on what transpired without needing to scroll through a potentially overwhelming number of messages. This is particularly helpful for busy users who participate in numerous group chats and might struggle to stay on top of everything.
Viber emphasizes user privacy by making these summaries entirely optional. Users have complete control over whether they want to see the AI-generated digest. Additionally, the summaries are anonymized, excluding any identifiers beyond usernames, ensuring conversations cannot be linked to specific individuals outside the group.
