Mint Town CEO Hiroshi Kunimitsu stated that integrating with the Oasys blockchain offers fans a novel way to engage with the story.

The renowned Japanese manga and anime series Captain Tsubasa has launched its nonfungible token (NFT) soccer game on the Oasys blockchain, which specializes in Web3 gaming.

On May 20, Oasys announced that the beloved 1980s manga and anime by Japanese author Yōichi Takahashi is now available as an NFT soccer game on its Web3 gaming blockchain.

Developed by Mint Town and Blocksmith, the Web3 game was first introduced in 2022 and officially launched on January 12, 2023. The project also released its governance token on June 4, 2023.

Players can collect NFTs of characters from the original series, develop them, form teams, and compete in various game modes.

The Rival mode lets players revisit the original storyline, while a player-versus-player (PvP) mode allows gamers to challenge others online. Additionally, the game includes an Arena mode for 11 versus 11 soccer matches.

Kunimitsu highlighted that integrating with the Oasys blockchain provides fans “a new way” to experience the animated story, showcasing blockchain technology’s potential to enhance interactive entertainment and gaming.

The manga series debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1981 and was adapted into an anime in 1983. It has inspired numerous movies and TV adaptations, with the latest series airing in 2018. By 2023, it had sold 90 million copies worldwide, ranking among the best-selling manga series ever.

To celebrate the game’s launch on Oasys, Genesis NFTs will feature additional benefits, such as increased energy points for players.

Meanwhile, GameFi studios are seeing renewed activity as cryptocurrency prices recover. On May 15, Web3 gaming studio Immutable released the Guild of Guardians game on Google Play and the Apple App Store.

On May 13, the Web3 game Pixels surpassed 1 million daily active players, generating $4.4 million in token revenue. Following its migration to the Ronin blockchain on February 22, the game achieved a $2.7 billion valuation.
