Tether, the company behind the world’s largest stablecoin USDt, is stepping into the world of artificial intelligence with a bold new project: Tether AI. According to CEO Paolo Ardoino, this upcoming platform will integrate payments in major cryptocurrencies like USDt and Bitcoin, enabling users to transact directly over a peer-to-peer (P2P) network, without middlemen.
Ardoino shared a teaser on May 5 via X, calling Tether AI a tool for “personal infinite intelligence,” and hinted at a launch soon.

The AI platform was first mentioned back in December 2024, announcing it was building a dedicated website with plans to launch by the end of Q1 2025. Now, it looks like that vision is becoming reality.
The ability to support “any hardware and device”
What sets Tether AI apart is its completely open-source runtime and its commitment to decentralization. Ardoino confirmed that the platform won’t rely on centralized APIs or control points. Instead, it will be fully modular and composable, meaning it can evolve and run on virtually any hardware or device, from smartphones to laptops to edge devices.
P2P Payments Meet Developer Freedom
Tether AI will also incorporate the company’s wallet development kit (WDK)—a powerful open-source toolkit launched in November 2024. This kit enables developers to build mobile, desktop, and web wallets that support self-custody of assets like USDt and Bitcoin.

In contrast to traditional custodial wallets, where a third party manages your crypto, self-custodial wallets give users full control over their funds—a key feature in the P2P Ecosystem Tether envisions.
Tether doubles down on Artificial Intelligence
Tether AI isn’t just a side project. As part of a broader reorganization plan revealed in April 2024, the business established Tether Data, a division dedicated solely to peer-to-peer and artificial intelligence technology.
