Hyperliquid, a layer-1 blockchain known for its high-performance perpetual exchange, faces a critical juncture. In a recent research note, asset manager VanEck highlighted the urgent need for Hyperliquid to attract a thriving developer community, VanEck said.

The note emphasizes that Hyperliquid’s success hinges on more than just its impressive trading platform. The nascent smart contract platform needs to cultivate a vibrant ecosystem of developers building innovative applications on top of its blockchain.
VanEck warns that a failure to attract and retain developers could lead to a scenario where the initial excitement surrounding Hyperliquid and its HYPE token (which boasts a substantial market capitalization) fizzles out.
The research note points to the “prisoner’s dilemma” faced by many holders of HYPE tokens. With the token’s value largely tied to the success of the Hyperliquid ecosystem, a lack of developer activity could incentivize holders to sell their tokens, potentially triggering a downward spiral.
Hyperliquid’s future success depends on its ability to foster a thriving developer community and build a robust and sustainable ecosystem beyond its initial trading platform.
