Hypurr NFTs Take Off After Long-Awaited Airdrop
Early supporters of Hyperliquid, the perpetuals-focused Layer-1 blockchain, struck gold this weekend when the Hyper Foundation released its Hypurr NFT collection. The airdrop was distributed to active early users, with each NFT depicting quirky cartoon cat avatars.
The collection hit the market with a bang — the floor price quickly climbed to around 1,458 HYPE (≈$68,700), based on OpenSea data.
But the real shock came when Hypurr #21, featuring rare “Knight Ghost Armor” and “Knight Helm Ghost” traits, sold for an astonishing 9,999 HYPE (≈$467,000).
Pre-Launch Frenzy and OTC Sales
Even before the official launch, demand for the Hypurr NFTs was intense. According to DripTrade, some pieces were already trading through OTC (over-the-counter) deals at prices of up to $88,000 earlier this month.
DripTrade’s OTC system allowed buyers and sellers to set prices before minting, with collateral requirements ensuring trades were honored within seven days of NFT delivery.
Community Reactions: Free Cats Worth a Fortune
The massive payouts have sparked strong reactions across the crypto community, especially against the backdrop of global economic struggles.
- MoonOverlord, a well-known X user, commented: “Average people are struggling to pay for groceries, and meanwhile, someone just flipped a free Hyperliquid cat NFT for $50,000+. Crypto really is a strange world.”
- Another trader, DidiTrading, admitted uncertainty: “I got a Hypurr NFT that’s valued around $50k. Honestly, I’ll let the market settle before deciding what to do with it.”
Hypurr NFT Details
The Hypurr collection contains 4,600 NFTs in total:
- 4,313 went directly to active participants of Hyperliquid’s (November 2024, during the HYPE token launch).
