The Ethereum Foundation is stepping up its financial game with a clearer and more transparent treasury policy that links its spending and cash needs directly to its Ether holdings and sales. This decision is intended to bolster the Foundation’s financial stability as it prepares for a vital 18 months ahead.
One of the Foundation’s directors shared on June 4 that they will regularly review their annual operating costs as a percentage of the treasury and how many years of runway they have left. This review will take into account market conditions and community feedback to keep short-term operations aligned with Ethereum’s long-term vision.
Hsiao-Wei Wang highlighted that the Foundation currently has about 2.5 years before its cash runs out, making the next year and a half especially important. The goal is to manage resources more thoughtfully and support the ecosystem better:
“This policy reflects our belief that 2025-26 will be crucial years for Ethereum, requiring sharper focus on key deliverables.”
This new approach comes after some community members expressed concern over recent, unexpected Ether sales by the Foundation, which some felt hurt trust. To address this, the Ethereum Foundation will now publish quarterly and yearly reports detailing its asset holdings, investment results, and any major developments.

As of October 31, the Foundation’s treasury was totaled to be worth $970 million, with approximately $789 million in crypto assets and $182 million in other assets. More than 81% of these holdings were in ETH. Since then, the price of ETH has dipped slightly by about 1.8%, according to CoinGecko.
Additionally, the Foundation announced a restructuring of its internal development team, resulting in some layoffs, though specific numbers were not disclosed. These changes come amid ETH’s underperformance in the current bull cycle, trailing behind assets like Bitcoin and Solana. The Foundation’s proactive steps show that it is dedicated to overcoming these problems and making sure that Ethereum will be around for a long time.
