CIMG Inc., a Nasdaq-listed sales and development company, has taken a bold step into digital assets by purchasing 500 Bitcoin. The acquisition was financed through a recent $55 million stock offering, where the company issued 220 million common shares in a private placement under Regulation S—an arrangement exempt from SEC registration requirements.
Strategic Shift Toward Bitcoin Holdings
The company’s leadership confirmed that this purchase marks the start of a broader strategy to strengthen its balance sheet through Bitcoin reserves. CEO Wang Jianshuang emphasized that CIMG intends to expand its digital asset portfolio further and is actively exploring collaborations within the crypto and AI sectors, citing potential work with Merlin Chain.
A Growing Corporate Trend
CIMG is following a path pioneered by firms such as MicroStrategy, which set the stage for corporations holding Bitcoin as treasury assets. Currently, more than 170 companies worldwide maintain Bitcoin on their balance sheets—many of them pivoting away from their original business models to focus primarily on raising funds for BTC accumulation.
However, not all experts are convinced. Thomas Fecker-Boxler, Interim CEO of the Web3 Foundation, cautioned that while corporate Bitcoin treasuries can deepen liquidity and accelerate adoption, the strategy also carries financial risks. He compared the trend to traditional market cycles, where overextended balance sheets can create instability if enthusiasm outweighs sound financial structuring.
Market Response
Despite the high-profile Bitcoin purchase, investor sentiment was lukewarm. CIMG shares fell 3.53% on Tuesday, closing at $0.2543, as concerns about the company’s weakening revenues, negative profit margins, and ongoing financial struggles weighed on the stock.
