Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has called on Web3 wallet developers to prioritize improving security and privacy in decentralized wallets. In a blog post published on December 3, 2024, Buterin emphasized that wallets should be designed to enhance decentralization and privacy, arguing that users can only fully benefit from the privacy, security, and resistance to censorship that Ethereum provides if their wallets are built using the same principles.

Buterin’s proposed solution is to integrate privacy features directly into Web3 wallets, allowing users to enjoy privacy without complex setups. He suggested that wallets could store a portion of a user’s assets in a “private balance” or privacy pool, which would fund private transfers without requiring separate infrastructure. This integration, Buterin believes, would encourage greater adoption of privacy features.
This call comes just a month after Buterin announced plans to improve the Ethereum network, emphasizing the importance of decentralization. By advocating for enhanced security and privacy in Web3 wallets, Buterin is further solidifying his commitment to creating a more robust and user-friendly Ethereum ecosystem.
