Scammers recently targeted two accounts linked to former President Donald Trump’s family to promote fraudulent cryptocurrency links, but X promptly removed the malicious content.

On September 4, both Lara and Tiffany Trump’s official X accounts were compromised, with attackers posting links to fake crypto projects. The incidents were reported to the official Telegram group of Trump’s new decentralized finance (DeFi) initiative, World Liberty Financial.

Users are advised to avoid interacting with or clicking any links shared by these accounts until the situation is resolved. World Liberty Financial cautioned, “Do NOT click on any links or buy any tokens from these profiles. We’re working to address this issue, but please remain alert and avoid scams!”

Eric Trump, Lara’s husband, confirmed in a now-deleted X post that his wife’s account was hacked. Despite the posts appearing credible, they were indeed the work of scammers. Eric mentioned that X swiftly secured both accounts “within minutes.”

Some observant X users noted that the accounts were promoting a Solana memecoin before being taken down, highlighting that both Eric and Donald Trump had previously stated no memecoin would be launched.

According to DEX Screener, the fraudulent address was active for a brief period, reaching a peak trading volume of 1.37 million and a high price of 0.0053 before vanishing.

Carter commented on September 4, “I think it genuinely damages Trump’s electoral prospects, especially if it gets hacked. It would be the most attractive DeFi target ever, and it’s forked from a protocol that was itself hacked.”

Details about World Liberty Financial are still limited. The platform is expected to function as a borrowing and lending protocol akin to other DeFi systems in the crypto market.

Trump has made several ambiguous statements about the new project, hinting that it aims to help users bypass traditional banking and establish the U.S. as the “crypto capital” of the world. The Liberty Project’s official Telegram group has amassed over 219,000 members.

Since declaring support for the crypto industry if re-elected, Trump has gained significant backing from the crypto community.
