Bitcoin-focused firm Metaplanet has appointed Eric Trump, son of US President Donald Trump, to its newly created strategic advisory board to help advance Metaplanet’s goal of becoming a “global leader in the Bitcoin economy.”
Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich expressed in a March 21 statement on X that Eric’s business expertise, passion for the Bitcoin community, and global hospitality insights would be key in propelling Metaplanet toward its objective of becoming a leading Bitcoin Treasury company.
“Metaplanet’s CEO, Simon Gerovich, announced on X (formerly Twitter) on March 21st that a new addition to their team brings a powerful combination of sharp business skills, deep connection to the Bitcoin community, and extensive international hospitality experience. This unique blend of expertise is expected to significantly boost Metaplanet’s goal of establishing itself as a premier global Bitcoin Treasury Company.”
This move is part of Metaplanet’s broader strategy to build a board comprising influential voices, thought leaders, and advocates of Bitcoin adoption worldwide.
Following the announcement, Metaplanet’s shares surged by 17.8%, reaching 4,730 Japanese yen ($31.74) within the first 80 minutes of the March 21 trading day on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, according to Google Finance data.
Metaplanet currently holds 3,050 Bitcoin (BTC), valued at nearly $4.1 billion, making it the 12th largest corporate Bitcoin holder, as per BitBo’s BitcoinTreasuries.NET data.
The Japan-based investment firm aims to accumulate at least 10,000 Bitcoin by the end of 2025. Over the first 11 weeks of 2025, Metaplanet has purchased 1,288 Bitcoin, marking an increase in pace compared to 2024 but still not fully aligned with the ambitious goal.
The company has been using various financial tools to boost its Bitcoin holdings since its initial purchase on April 23, 2024.
Meanwhile, Eric Trump has played a significant role in the Trump family’s World Liberty Financial crypto platform, which completed its second token sale in March 2025, raising a total of $550 million.
The platform currently holds $80.8 million in crypto assets, according to Arkham Intelligence. Additionally, Eric Trump has disclosed that his personal crypto portfolio includes Bitcoin, Ether (ETH), Solana (SOL), and Sui (SUI).
