Circle Internet Financial, the issuer of the USD Coin (USDC) stablecoin, has acquired Hashnote Management LLC, a provider of a tokenized money market fund with nearly $1.3 billion in assets.

Circle announced on January 21 that the partnership “will enable USYC to emerge as a preferred form of yield-bearing collateral on crypto exchanges, as well as with custodians and prime brokers.”

Circle stated that the acquisition would allow them to integrate USDC with Hashnote’s US Yield Coin (USYC), which offers investors yield-bearing interest on their holdings. This integration is expected to facilitate easier conversion between the two asset classes, benefiting both retail and institutional investors.

The acquisition of Hashnote is seen as a strategic move by Circle to expand its presence in the growing market for tokenized assets. By incorporating USYC into its ecosystem, Circle aims to provide users with a more comprehensive range of financial products and services.

This move also highlights the increasing convergence between traditional finance and decentralized finance (DeFi) as companies like Circle seek to leverage blockchain technology to enhance their offerings.
