ByteDance, the parent company of the popular video-sharing platform TikTok, has entered the competitive text-to-video market with its new AI tool, Jimeng AI. The app, developed by ByteDance subsidiary Faceu Technology, allows users to create short video clips based on text prompts. This move positions ByteDance directly against other Chinese tech firms and global competitors like OpenAI, known for its Sora text-to-video model.
Jimeng AI is currently available on the Apple App Store in China and was launched on Android on July 31. The app offers subscription plans ranging from 69 yuan to 659 yuan annually, providing users with varying levels of video creation capabilities. With this launch, ByteDance aims to capitalize on the growing interest in AI-generated video content and expand its AI capabilities.
The text-to-video market has witnessed rapid growth in recent months, with several Chinese companies introducing similar tools. Kuaishou, another major Chinese video platform, launched its Kling AI model globally, while startups like Zhipu AI and Shengshu unveiled their own video generation platforms.
ByteDance’s entry into this market is seen as a strategic move to strengthen its position in the AI landscape and potentially integrate text-to-video features into its flagship app, TikTok. The company’s strong user base and technical expertise could give it a significant advantage in this burgeoning field. As the competition intensifies, it remains to be seen how ByteDance’s Jimeng AI will differentiate itself and capture a substantial market share.
