Australian federal police have announced an investigation into a spate of crypto phishing scams that have impacted at least 2,000 Australian-owned crypto wallets. The investigation follows a Chainanalysis report named Operation Spincaster, which revealed that thousands of crypto wallets belonging to Australians were exploited through “approval phishing” tactics.

Approval phishing is a type of scam where criminals trick victims into approving fraudulent transactions by impersonating legitimate platforms or services. Once victims approve the transaction, the criminals can steal their cryptocurrency.

The Australian federal police are working with Chainanalysis to identify the perpetrators of the scams and recover the stolen funds. They are also urging cryptocurrency investors to be vigilant and to only interact with verified platforms and services.

Cryptocurrency scams are becoming increasingly common, and investors need to be aware of the risks involved. By being vigilant and taking precautions, investors can help protect themselves from falling victim to these scams.
