OpenAI recently announced Sora, its most groundbreaking technology. So far, this text-to-video generative AI model appears to be extremely impressive, indicating enormous potential across a variety of industries. Here, we look at what OpenAI’s Sora is, how it works, some potential use cases, and what the future holds.
What Is Sora?
Sora stands as a groundbreaking AI model capable of generating realistic and imaginative scenes from textual instructions. Imagine describing a scene like “a majestic underwater city in coral reefs” or “a robot chef preparing a gourmet meal in a futuristic kitchen.” Sora can take these simple descriptions and transform them into short videos, bringing your imagination to life with stunning visuals.

How Does Sora Work?
Sora operates on the principle of diffusion models. Imagine a video turned entirely into static. Sora starts with such static and then, through numerous steps, gradually removes the noise, revealing a clear and coherent video. It’s like watching a blurry image come into focus, frame by frame.
However, Sora is more than just a noise-removal tool. It utilizes a powerful technology called transformers, similar to those used in GPT models for language generation. This allows Sora to understand the intricacies of the text descriptions it receives and translate them into visually compelling videos.
What Are The Limitations Of Sora?
OpenAI has identified several limitations in the current version of Sora. Sora does not have an implicit understanding of physics, so “real-world” physical rules may not always be adhered to.
As of now, Sora can only generate videos up to a minute long. This restricts its use for creating longer content like documentaries or full-fledged movies.
A seed phrase is 12 or 24 words that act as the master key to your whole wallet — import them anywhere and you regain the same accounts. Lose it and funds are gone; expose it and they're stolen. Store it offline, and never give it to anyone.
Precision in Motion: Describing actions and achieving perfect visual representation through text prompts remains a challenge. The generated videos may not always flawlessly match the user’s intended description, requiring further refinement.
The Physics Enigma: Sora still struggles with grasping the intricacies of real-world physics. This can manifest in objects moving unnaturally or physical interactions not aligning with expectations. Maintaining consistency in object positions and behaviors over longer videos is another ongoing area of improvement.
Ethical Considerations: As with any powerful AI, the potential for misuse exists. Biases within the training data can lead to biased outputs, requiring careful monitoring and mitigation strategies. Additionally, the ability to generate realistic videos raises concerns about the spread of misinformation or the creation of harmful content.
A grandmother with neatly combed grey hair stands behind a colorful birthday cake with numerous candles at a wood dining room table, expression is one of pure joy and happiness, with a happy glow in her eye. She leans forward and blows out the candles with a gentle puff, the cake has pink frosting and sprinkles and the candles cease to flicker, the grandmother wears a light blue blouse adorned with floral patterns, several happy friends and family sitting at the table can be seen celebrating, out of focus. What Are The Risks Of Sora?
While Sora, the AI tool generating videos from text, boasts impressive capabilities, it’s not without its risks. Here’s a closer look at some potential pitfalls:
Misinformation and Deepfakes: One major concern lies in the potential for generating deceptive videos. Malicious actors could use Sora to create realistic deepfakes – fabricated videos featuring real people in compromising or untrue situations. This could have severe consequences for individuals and even manipulate public opinion on important issues.
Loss of Control Over Content Creation: As AI-generated videos become more prevalent, the line between genuine and artificial content may blur. This raises concerns about the potential for a loss of control over content creation. Authenticity and trust in online information could be significantly eroded if viewers struggle to distinguish real footage from AI creations.
Bias and Discrimination: AI models are trained on vast datasets, and these datasets can reflect existing societal biases. If not carefully addressed, Sora could perpetuate discriminatory stereotypes in the videos it generates. This could exacerbate existing social inequalities and further marginalize vulnerable groups.
Technical Limitations: Currently, Sora’s capabilities are limited. The length and control users have over the generated video are still under development. This could lead to unintended consequences or inaccurate representations of the user’s intent.
Ethical Considerations: The ease with which Sora can generate videos necessitates careful consideration of ethical implications. Measures need to be developed to prevent misuse, ensure transparency about AI-generated content, and establish guidelines for responsible use.

A bridge moves value between blockchains by locking an asset on one chain and minting a representation on another. They get hacked because they concentrate value and depend on flawless keys, contracts and proofs — as Ronin (~$600M) and Wormhole (~$320M) showed.
DeFi provides financial services — trading, lending, borrowing — through public smart contracts instead of banks. It's permissionless, non-custodial and composable, with borrowing secured by over-collateralisation rather than credit checks, and no safety net if code fails.
