World Liberty Financial (WLFI), a digital asset tied to the Trump family, had a rocky start after hitting public markets this week. The token opened trading above $0.30 but quickly dropped to $0.24 — a fall of over 15%, according to CoinGecko.
With the decline, WLFI’s market cap settled just under $7 billion, placing it around the 31st largest cryptocurrency at launch. Listings on major exchanges such as Binance, OKX, and Bybit helped fuel strong initial volumes, but selling pressure weighed heavily.
Why the Price Dropped
The launch followed a July decision by investors to allow WLFI tokens — previously used only for governance rights — to be freely traded. Early participants were allowed to sell up to 20% of their holdings, much of which had been purchased at presale prices between $0.015 and $0.05. Analysts estimate that 3–5 billion tokens hit the market during this first unlock, dampening enthusiasm despite heavy demand.
In total, around 24.6 billion WLFI tokens entered circulation at launch, though the full supply is projected to exceed 27 billion.
Heavy Trading, Political Spotlight
WLFI’s debut saw intense speculation: spot trading volume reached $2.25 billion, and futures activity was estimated between $3–8 billion. Pre-launch trading on platforms like Binance Futures hinted at turbulence, with prices swinging between $0.30 and $0.56.
Reports claim the project has already brought in about $500 million for the Trump family. Alongside its governance token, the platform also issues a stablecoin, promoted as a retail-friendly gateway into decentralized finance. Still, some lawmakers have raised concerns that Trump’s political influence over financial regulation could pose ethical risks for the project.
Influencers Join the Hype
Celebrity traders added to the frenzy. According to blockchain trackers, influencer Andrew Tate had a WLFI long position liquidated for a $67,500 loss before quickly re-entering the market. Moves like this highlight the speculative mood surrounding the token.
With less than 7% of the total supply unlocked, WLFI remains highly volatile. Its launch has become one of the most talked-about crypto events of the year — blending politics, speculation, and the unpredictable world of digital assets.
