The Open Network Foundation has brought aboard Nikola Plecas, a seasoned payments specialist fresh from Visa, to steer its global payments strategy as TON moves to support over a billion Telegram users. In a blog post published on May 28, the foundation stated that Plecas would be its new vice president of payments, responsible for growing the network’s capabilities, creating critical financial alliances, and negotiating the complicated web of regulatory compliance across jurisdictions.
Plecas arrives with a track record of leading crypto-focused initiatives at Visa, where he was instrumental in product development, global commercialization, and streamlining on-ramp performance across multiple markets. He also devised Visa’s digital currency engagement model for European clients and lent his voice to numerous fintech and crypto issuance campaigns at major industry events. “Joining TON Foundation is an amazing chance to influence payments on a truly global level,” Plecas stated, highlighting his eagerness to take on the difficulties of a quickly changing blockchain industry.
Max Crown, CEO of the TON Foundation, emphasized that robust payment infrastructure sits at the heart of TON’s roadmap. With Plecas at the helm, the foundation expects to accelerate integrations with partners such as Ethena and Tether, and to forge connections across at least 100 blockchains—including Ethereum, Tron, and Solana—ensuring that developers, enterprises, and end-users can move value seamlessly and securely around the globe.
