MapMyIndia, a leading geospatial technology company, has leveled serious allegations against ride-hailing giant Ola. The company claims that Ola has illegally copied and used its map data to develop its newly launched Ola Maps platform. MapMyIndia has issued a legal notice to Ola, asserting that the latter’s actions constitute a blatant violation of their 2021 agreement.

The heart of the dispute lies in the terms of the 2021 agreement, which specifically prohibited Ola from co-mingling or reverse-engineering MapMyIndia’s data. MapMyIndia contends that Ola has not only disregarded these terms but has actively exploited its data to build a competing map service. The company is demanding immediate cessation of all activities involving the use of its data, along with substantial damages.
This development has sent shockwaves through the tech industry, raising concerns about data security and intellectual property rights. The outcome of this legal battle will have far-reaching implications for the broader tech ecosystem. As the case unfolds, industry observers are closely watching to see how the courts will interpret the complex legal issues involved.
