Google is expanding access to its large language model, Gemini, for teens through their school accounts. This move follows the initial rollout of Gemini to teens with personal accounts. Alongside this expansion, Google is equipping educators with new tools to integrate AI responsibly into classrooms.
The goal is to equip students with the skills they’ll need to navigate a future heavily influenced by AI. Gemini can provide real-time feedback and support during research, writing assignments, or creative projects. This fosters a more confident learning experience and hone critical thinking skills.

Google has implemented safeguards to ensure responsible use in schools. Gemini will have built-in filters to prevent exposure to inappropriate content. It will also actively encourage students to use a “double-check” feature, promoting information literacy and independent verification of information.
This rollout is limited to students meeting minimum age requirements and using Google Workspace for Education accounts in English across over 100 countries. Google emphasizes that student data from Gemini interactions will not be used to improve the AI model, addressing privacy concerns.
This initiative has the potential to significantly impact education. AI tools like Gemini can personalize learning experiences, cater to diverse learning styles, and provide students with immediate and insightful feedback. However, questions remain regarding potential biases within the model and the impact on educators’ roles.
As AI continues to permeate various aspects of our lives, Google’s introduction of Gemini in schools sparks a conversation about responsible AI development and its role in shaping the future of education.
