In a move signaling deeper interest in emerging crypto markets, Coinbase Ventures, the investment division of the U.S.-based crypto giant Coinbase, has made a fresh investment in India’s leading digital asset exchange, CoinDCX.
This funding round places CoinDCX’s post-money valuation at $2.45 billion, reflecting strong confidence in the Indian exchange’s growth trajectory.
A Strengthening Presence in India and Beyond
CoinDCX, co-founded by Sumit Gupta, confirmed the investment through an official X post, while Coinbase highlighted India and the Middle East as two of the fastest-growing regions for crypto adoption.
With over 20 million users across India and the UAE, CoinDCX’s expansion was bolstered by its 2024 acquisition of BitOasis, a move that widened its footprint across the Gulf region.
According to data shared by Coinbase, CoinDCX’s performance remains impressive — recording about $141 million in annual revenue, $165 billion in yearly transaction volume, and $1.2 billion in assets under custody.
India’s Role in the Next Crypto Chapter
Coinbase described India as a market of “massive potential,” home to 1.4 billion people and roughly 115 million crypto users as of mid-2024. Despite regulatory uncertainty and official skepticism from government leaders, the appetite for blockchain innovation in India continues to grow.
While India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal recently questioned the underlying value of cryptocurrencies, the government remains open to exploring blockchain-based digital currency initiatives through the Reserve Bank of India.
Coinbase’s Global Investment Trail
The CoinDCX deal is part of a broader wave of Coinbase Ventures activity in 2025. The firm has backed projects such as:
- Crown, a Brazil-based fintech developing a real-backed stablecoin.
- Stablecore, which raised $20 million to build stablecoin infrastructure for credit unions and local banks.
- RedotPay, a stablecoin payment platform that secured $47 million in a strategic round.
- Bastion, a startup enabling white-label stablecoin issuance with participation from major tech players including Sony and Samsung.
These consistent investments reflect Coinbase’s broader strategy — diversifying into stablecoin ecosystems, regional fintechs, and blockchain infrastructure platforms worldwide.
A Sign of Confidence in India’s Crypto Future
For India, Coinbase’s renewed commitment reinforces the country’s position as a critical hub for crypto innovation and talent. Despite occasional policy friction, global players see India’s mix of developers, users, and fintech enthusiasm as too significant to ignore.
As Coinbase continues to expand its presence, and CoinDCX strengthens its leadership in South Asia’s crypto space, the partnership may mark a defining moment for the region’s Web3 evolution.
