The Web3 space has long been dominated by men, but efforts are underway to change that. At the Blockchain Baddies event during Token2049 in Dubai, women in Web3 shared insights on how to attract more women into the crypto space. They emphasized the value of community, education, and transparency in facilitating women’s access to the industry.
The necessity to make material easier to understand and clarify complex ideas was emphasized by Caroline York, marketing director at Serotonin. She noted that women often feel more comfortable learning from other women in high-trust environments. This sentiment was echoed by Saima Tariq Khan, an engineer and educator, who pointed out that many women graduate from computer science courses but remain underrepresented in the workforce. She believes that Web3’s ability to work remotely presents a chance to interact with this untapped talent pool.

Financial literacy was also identified as a crucial starting point. Paloma Soria Brown, an author and SheFi scholar, emphasized that understanding Web3’s concepts of ownership, freedom, and community could draw more women into the space. According to her, bringing women and other people into the cryptocurrency space requires boosting financial literacy and fostering trust.
Abigail Xavier, marketing manager at Web3 financial platform Fasset, shared that her company actively seeks input from women-focused communities to improve their products. They aim to make their platform and tools more intuitive for female users by incorporating feedback into their user interface and experience.
These discussions highlight the importance of creating a more inclusive and friendly environment for Web3 developers. By addressing barriers such as complex jargon, lack of representation, and limited access to education, the industry can pave the way for greater female participation and leadership in the future.
