Australian federal police have announced an investigation into a spate of crypto phishing scams that have impacted at least 2,000 Australian-owned crypto wallets. The investigation follows a Chainanalysis report named Operation Spincaster, which revealed that thousands of crypto wallets belonging to Australians were exploited through “approval phishing” tactics.
Approval phishing is a type of scam where criminals trick victims into approving fraudulent transactions by impersonating legitimate platforms or services. Once victims approve the transaction, the criminals can steal their cryptocurrency.
