Apple is reportedly setting its sights on integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into its mixed-reality headset, the Vision Pro. This move comes after the company unveiled its own AI service, Apple Intelligence, at WWDC earlier this year.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is working on bringing features from Apple Intelligence to the Vision Pro. Apple Intelligence boasts an array of functionalities, including an enhanced Siri assistant, improved proofreading tools, and even the ability to generate custom emojis.
While the exact timeline for this integration remains unclear, Gurman suggests it won’t be available in 2024. One of the primary challenges Apple faces is adapting these features for the mixed reality environment, offering a seamless user experience that differs significantly from interacting with them on a phone or computer screen.
This news coincides with reports of Apple exploring ways to make the Vision Pro more accessible. This includes considering potential suppliers for a more affordable version of the headset and allowing extended trial periods in stores for potential buyers to experience the capabilities firsthand.
The inclusion of AI in the Vision Pro has the potential to significantly enhance its functionality. Imagine a Siri assistant that can access information and complete tasks within the mixed reality space or intelligent tools that assist with design or creation within the AR/VR environment.
However, some concerns remain. The processing power needed for advanced AI features within the headset could be an obstacle. Additionally, the ethical implications surrounding user data and privacy within a mixed reality environment warrant careful consideration.
