ApeCoin DAO, the decentralized autonomous organization behind the ApeCoin cryptocurrency, is considering a proposal to establish a hotel with a Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) theme in Bangkok, Thailand.
This proposal, submitted by a DAO member known as DeSmart on July 19, 2024, seeks $3.6 million worth of ApeCoin (APE) tokens to renovate a portion of an existing downtown Bangkok hotel. The renovated area would feature several rooms adorned with BAYC iconography, an ApeCoin-themed bar, and even a swimming pool.
The proposal argues that this Bored Ape hotel would serve multiple purposes. It would boost brand awareness for both BAYC and ApeCoin, attracting new users and investors to the cryptocurrency and NFT ecosystems. Additionally, it could generate revenue for the ApeCoin DAO, with half of the themed room income going directly to the DAO for a year after construction.
This isn’t the first time Microsoft has ventured into humanoid robotics. Their 2024 partnership with Figure, another leader in the field, underscores their strategic approach to securing a foothold in the development of next-generation robot AI.
The potential benefits of this ApeCoin hotel extend beyond just branding and revenue generation. It could serve as a physical hub for the ApeCoin community, fostering social interaction and a sense of belonging among ApeCoin holders. However, some remain skeptical. The concept of a cryptocurrency-themed hotel might hold limited appeal to the general public, potentially hindering its success. Additionally, questions linger regarding the long-term viability of the BAYC NFT collection and ApeCoin itself.
Only time will tell if the ApeCoin DAO approves this proposal. The idea has sparked discussions within the ApeCoin community, with some members enthusiastic about the potential while others express reservations. Regardless of the outcome, this proposal signifies the growing influence of cryptocurrency and NFTs in unexpected corners of the world.
